Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research welcomes you ...
Research & Development

Research and Development activities are an integral part of the academic programs of any educational institute. All faculty members and postgraduate students are involved in research activities and work with a tremendous zeal in various departments of SMIMER. The combination of technical competence and the urge to be relevant to rural community has given rise to wide range of research and development activities. In fact the local prevailing heath care problems merit immediate attention and accordingly these have been recognized as areas with tremendous potential of research and our faculty and students are encouraged to address these issues. While realizing the necessity of the use of sophisticated technology in dealing of health care problems, our institute also realizes the necessity of encouraging the use of appropriate technology which is of low cost and offers tremendous benefits in terms of reduction of morbidity and mortality. It is a matter of pleasure for us to announce that our college carried out the training of all of the medical officers of the Surat Municipal Corporation in the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses and subsequently IMNCI programme has been implemented in the city and SMC is thus among the first cities, if not the first, to launch the Urban IMNCI programme and currently operational research is being planned in its monitoring and impact.

To explore various pertinent research avenues, our faculty and PG Students are encouraged to attend various conferences, seminars and workshops. Many such need based research activities are being designed, planned and executed with great zeal and endeavour. Research priorities are being identified in consultation with social scientists, health planners and community leaders. Many of these research activities are being designed, planned and executed at the departmental level. Our faculty has done a laudable work in research on local needs.
